Chelsea hired Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager on Monday, as the Argentine took on the daunting task of revitalizing the struggling Premier League club.
Pochettino has been handed a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further year and will return to the Premier League four years after being sacked by Chelsea's London rivals Tottenham.
The 51-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by PSG in July 2022.
"Mauricio is a world-class manager with a fantastic record. We are all looking forward to his joining," Chelsea co-owners Todd Bolly and Bedard Egbaly said in a statement.
Pochettino will take over on July 1, replacing Frank Lampard after the former England midfielder returned to Chelsea as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
Lampard is Chelsea's third manager in a dismal season, with Burleigh sacking Thomas Tuchel in September and his successor in April after less than seven months in charge Graham Potter.
Pochettino is a favorite after Chelsea held talks with former Spain boss Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich in March.
Pochettino verbally agreed to manage Chelsea in April, but the appointment was put on hold until the end of the season.
The Blues ended their underwhelming Premier League season with a draw at Newcastle on Sunday, with Pochettino flying to England to formalize the deal.
Chelsea Assistant Sporting Directors Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: "Mauricio's experience, quality standard, leadership and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we go forward."
"He is a successful coach who has worked at the highest level in multiple leagues and languages. His spirit, tactical approach and commitment to development make him an outstanding candidate."
Pochettino will arrive at Stamford Bridge after finishing 12th in the Premier League this season, looking for a club in crisis - his first time in the bottom half since 1996.
They also lost to Manchester City in the FA Cup and League Cup, and were unable to be eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Pochettino is believed to be interested in signing a new goalkeeper, midfielder and striker, and has a tall order ahead of him.

Bolly reportedly told his players their season had been "embarrassing" after Brighton's home defeat, with fans beating the American.
Bolly has come under fire after overseeing a £550m ($679m) indiscriminate spending on signings.
The record-setting effort failed to fix many of Chelsea's problems, resulting in a squad so overstuffed that there wasn't even enough space in the dressing room for each player to find his or her own seat.
Pochettino needs to mend the low morale of a squad full of frustrated stars eager to leave after failing to secure regular playing time.
Lampard admitted after Sunday's final game that Chelsea's standards had dropped significantly at a club that last won the Premier League title in 2017.
Chelsea fans have grown weary of Porter quickly and it will be interesting to see if Pochettino's history at Tottenham worries Blues supporters.
At least Pochettino knows what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, having led Tottenham to four top-four finishes during his five-year tenure in north London.
The demanding Argentine made his Premier League debut for Southampton in 2013-14, and he also guided Tottenham to their first Champions League final in 2019.
They were beaten by Liverpool in the final, but while Pochettino failed to end Tottenham's hunger for silverware, his sacking a few months after that memorable Champions League run still left the team sacked. People are surprised.
Signed by PSG in January 2021, he failed to win the Ligue 1 title in his debut season but led the club to victory in the Coupe de France.
While PSG were crowned champions of France in Pochettino's second season, their disappointing Champions League round of 16 elimination played a major role in his dismissal and replacement by Christophe Galtier last July.
